Charcoal grey storm clouds roiled behind her without notice, then lightning cleaved the sky! Janaki had to leave now or become engulfed in a blizzard. As she turned the key the oddball all-wheel drive was slow to start. Janaki struggled with the steering wheel, "We're doing this now? Stay in your lane, girl!"

Instead of turning around the go-anywhere car lurched with fits and starts into a deep trench near the stone tree. Snow covered the ground making the wheels unable to gain traction. Then the mini SUV gave up the ghost and stopped running. Janaki tried to restart the four-banger, but its battery was dead.
