The girls sat criss-cross applause in a picturesque landscape by a turquoise stream to share a laugh about the best day ever, hands down. "Remember that time we rode on scribbled camels in a desert oasis, sailed the ocean blue in a doodled boat, and went on rides at a cartoon amusement park?" and, "Remember that time when I was all like, 'Exsqueeze me? Look at all that paper!'"
But the time had come for Shelby to go home. Petals stood up and raised her paintbrush to make a door to Shelby's room. Just as paint began to flow from the brush Petals was all thumbs and faceplanted in the babbling creek's wet paint. The paintbrush dropped from her hand, bobbing up and down as it floated away.
Petals narrowed her onyx eyes as she exclaimed, "We have to get that paintbrush back or we'll never get you home!" The two friends waded into the watercolor. At first the still waters beckoned shallow and calm, but after they caught the brush Shelby and Petals gasped at the river cataract racing toward a gushing waterfall. Plummeting watercolor continuously clamored twirling like a ribbon unwinding from a spool faster and faster until it candy caned into a one point perspective vortex so strong that it vanished into the ether without a trace.
Spray-filled bedrock enlivened with coruscating rainbows protruded from the edge of the preposterous waterfall. Approaching the turbulent brink, Petals showed her true colors and jammed the stick between two Cubist style boulders. "Grab my hand!" she called to Shelby. The two adventurers managed to clasp hands, their fingers stretched to the limit as they dangled precariously from the perpendicular ledge painted into a corner. Shelby's mood stone ring kept tabs on the stressful situation. Petals wore a serious expression, "Let's get out of this pinch!"
Yellow paint launched from the paintbrush bristles like a bottle rocket high into the air. In the same instant the rod cracked in the center from having too much weight on it. The girls spiraled down the sheer vertical drop. The glob of paint formed into an animated two-seated biplane, then swooped into the brink to catch Chevelle and Petals brushing the abstract waterfall with its wings.
"Imagine that!" the aviatrixes cheered soaring above the cloud deck. The aircraft landed gently on the ground wagging its tail happy to be of service.
